Coolant
Only fill the cooling system when the engine has cooled down, otherwise there is a risk of scalding.◄
The coolant consists of half water and half antifreeze. Not all antifreeze products available on the market are suitable for your BMW. To find out which antifreeze products are suitable, contact a BMW service center.
To avoid engine damage, use only the recommended antifreeze. Antifreeze is hazardous to health, so observe the instructions printed on its packaging.◄
When disposing of antifreeze, observe the environmental protection regulations.◄
Checking the Coolant Level
1. Before opening the hood, allow the engine to cool down.
2. First release the excess pressure in the reservoir by turning the cap slightly counterclockwise, then open the reservoir.
3. Under normal conditions, the coolant level should be between the Min and Max marks, see the illustration next to the filler neck.
4. If necessary, slowly add coolant, taking care not to overfill.
5. Tighten the cap until it clicks audibly.
6. Eliminate the cause of the coolant leak as soon as possible.
