Break-in

~1min read

A new vehicle must be broken in so that its moving parts and assemblies wear in against each other. Observe the instructions below. This will extend the service life of the vehicle and make its operation more economical.

Engine and Rear Axle Final Drive

Mileage up to 2000 km: vary engine speeds and vehicle speeds during break-in, but make sure that engine speed and vehicle speed do not exceed the following values:

► for vehicles with gasoline engines, 4500 rpm and 160 km/h;
► for vehicles with diesel engines, 3500 rpm and 150 km/h.

Observe the speed limits in effect in the country of travel.

When using the accelerator pedal, avoid full-throttle positions and “Kick Down”.

When mileage exceeds 2000 km, engine speed and road speed can be gradually increased.

Tires

Due to the manufacturing technology, new tires achieve optimum road grip only after break-in. Therefore, drive with restraint during the first 300 km.

Brake System

Brake pads and discs achieve optimum mutual contact after approximately 500 km of driving. Until break-in is complete, drive with restraint.

Clutch

The clutch begins to operate optimally after 500 km of driving. Until break-in is complete, engage the clutch as smoothly as possible.

After Replacing Components and Parts

These break-in rules should also be observed after replacing the components and parts mentioned above.
