Emergency Call

Conditions required for an emergency call:

► the ignition key is in position 1 or the telephone handset is switched on;
► a mobile phone network signal is received;
► the emergency call system is operational;
► the SIM card is inserted and the PIN has been entered (on most GSM networks, an emergency call is possible even without a SIM card).

The emergency call number depends on the country of travel. However, the emergency call button works in most GSM networks.

Misuse of the emergency call system is punishable by law.

Making an emergency call

1. To open the emergency call button cover, press it.

2. Press and hold the emergency call button for at least 2 seconds. A message appears on the display, and the emergency call can still be cancelled within 5 seconds.

The indicator lamp in the button lights up. As soon as the connection to the emergency call number is established, the indicator lamp starts to flash.

If the situation permits, remain in the vehicle and wait for a response. You can then describe the situation in detail.

If BMW Assist services are available, the telephone connection is established with the BMW Assist operator. If the vehicle position is determined, it is transmitted to the operator.

If the indicator lamp flashes but you cannot hear the operator through the speaker, the hands-free system may not be working. However, the operator can hear you.

In the event of a very severe accident, an emergency call is sent automatically. Pressing the emergency call button does not prevent the automatic connection.

Under unfavorable circumstances, the connection may not be established for technical reasons.◄
