Immobilizer

~1min read

The immobilizer is an additional anti-theft feature that prevents the vehicle from being started by unauthorized persons. Vehicles with an immobilizer use an ignition key with an integrated electronically coded transponder. The transponder is located in the key and is not visible from the outside.

The engine can only be started with the correct key.

A key with an incorrect code can only be used to open the doors.

The engine is automatically disabled when the ignition switch is turned to LOCK and the key is removed from the ignition.

If the immobilizer detects a fault while the ignition switch is in the ON position, the system indicator light will flash or stay on, and the engine cannot be started.

Have the vehicle checked; authorized service centers are recommended.

Note

If the lock freezes due to very low ambient temperatures and the doors cannot be opened, tap the lock or warm the key.
