Liftgate (Hatchback)

Opening

<Type 1>

To open the tailgate, press the button plate when the tailgate is unlocked.

The tailgate is locked or unlocked at the same time as all door locks, using the remote transmitter.

<Type 2>

To unlock the tailgate, insert the key into the lock and turn it counterclockwise. Lift the tailgate.

Warning Do not drive with the tailgate open or ajar, e.g. when transporting long objects, as toxic exhaust gases may enter the vehicle interior. Caution To avoid damage, make sure there are no obstacles within the swing range of the tailgate, e.g. a garage door, before opening it. Always check that the space above and behind the tailgate is clear of obstacles.

Note With the engine running, the tailgate can be opened when the shift lever is in P (automatic transmission) or the parking brake is applied (manual transmission).

Note Attaching heavy accessories to the tailgate may prevent it from staying in the open position.

Closing

<Type 1>

To close the tailgate, press it down until it latches.

Do not press the button plate while closing. This may cause the lid to open again.

<Type 2>

To close the tailgate, press it down until it latches.

Caution Make sure that the hands and other body parts of all persons near the vehicle are kept away from the tailgate closing area.
