Description and Operation - Parking Aid System - Overview

Overview - Active Park Assist

Active Park Assist is a fully featured parking aid system. The system assists with parking and parking exit (exit assist is only available for parallel parking spaces). Sensors are used to detect parking spaces. The system then controls steering, acceleration, braking and gear shifting as required to maneuver into or out of a parking space.

The PAM uses inputs from the active park aid sensors, park aid sensors and a geometric equation to determine whether the vehicle will fit into the parking space. If it is determined that the vehicle will fit in the parking space, the PAM requests the correct steering angles from the PSCM and the correct vehicle speed from the PCM during parking maneuvers. The system instructs the operator visually and/or audibly to park the vehicle using messages in the central information display and audio system warning chimes.
