Insulation is used as a sound absorber to reduce road and driveline noise from entering the passenger compartment. Mastic insulators are also used as insulation. Insulation is installed:

  • under the roof.
  • above and below the instrument panel.
  • on the hood side panels.
  • above the front and rear floor panels.
  • inside the center, center and D-pillar sections.

Other forms of insulation include:

  • front tunnel stiffener pad.
  • instrument panel reinforcement.
  • mastic pads on the rear wheel arch.
  • mastic pads on the rear doors.

It has heat-bonded mastic dampers to improve NVH performance.

It also has dampers located inside the D-pillar and plug holes in the inner rear quarter.

Body Sealer Types and Applications

Seam Sealer

  • thick, non-sagging adhesive/sealer used for cosmetic seams, truck body seams, and door skin and floor seams.
  • can be used for water leaks and noise concerns.

Silicone Gasket and Sealer

  • formed-in-place gasket and multi-purpose adhesive/sealer.
  • room-temperature-vulcanizing silicone rubber.

Silicone Aerosol Lubricant

  • makes door and window weatherstrip flexible and soft.
  • makes door closing easier.
  • slows weatherstrip squeaks.
  • slows weatherstrip wear.
  • helps maintain door glass alignment by reducing friction between the glass run and rubber weatherstrip.
