Accelerator Control - Overview. Description and Operation

~1min read

Overview

The accelerator controls consist of the accelerator pedal and the sensor assembly.

The throttle is controlled by the APP sensor on the accelerator pedal assembly. The APP sensor sends a signal to the PCM in response to driver-initiated accelerator pedal movement. The PCM sends a signal to the electronic throttle control, which opens and closes the throttle.

The engine control system electronically controls the engine throttle in response to accelerator pedal movements initiated by the driver. In the event of a system failure, the engine control system provides a "limp home" mode, which allows the vehicle to be driven with limited performance.
