Repair
- Refer to: Body Repair, Health and Safety, and General Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
- Clean the area with a wire brush and make sure the surfaces are free of oil, dirt and other foreign material. Perform the primer process in the following sequence.
- Thoroughly clean and degrease metal surfaces to remove wax and grease.
Material: Motorcraft® Metal Surface Preparation Wipes / ZC-31-B - For best results, the vehicle should be at room temperature.
- Attach the primer canister to the dispensing gun.
Use common equipment: Primer Gun
Material: ValuGard™ Premium Primer Coating / VG101, VG101A - Primer must be applied after welding and painting. The product cannot be welded through.
- Set the air pressure for the applicator gun to 552 kPa (80.06 psi) to 621 kPa (90.07 psi).
- Apply light mist coats, spraying the applicator in a fine mist. The material displaces moisture.
- Remove excess overspray with a mild solvent, such as mineral spirits or a bug and tar remover.
- Apply Premium Undercoating to the exterior of exposed edges after welding and painting.

- Apply rust inhibitor to the inside surface of the rail after the welding process. Pull the trigger and wait 2-3 seconds, then slowly pull the wand back to ensure the area is completely misted.

- Apply Premium primer to exposed surfaces after the welding process. Make sure all bare metal areas are covered.

Repair
- Surfaces must be free of oil, dirt and other foreign material. Perform the process in the following sequence.
- Thoroughly clean and degrease metal surfaces to remove wax and grease.
Material: Motorcraft® Metal Surface Preparation Wipes / ZC-31-B - For best results, the vehicle should be at room temperature. Attach the rust inhibitor canister to the dispensing gun.
Use basic equipment: Rust Protection Gun
Material: ValuGard™ Rust Inhibitor / VG104, VG104A - Rust inhibitor must be applied after welding and painting. The product cannot be welded through.
- Set the air pressure for the applicator gun to 448 kPa (64.97 psi) to 517 kPa (74.98 psi).
- Use a wand of suitable length when spraying the area. Insert the wand as far as possible into the access hole, pull the trigger, wait 2-3 seconds, and slowly withdraw the wand from the access hole. Apply the material in thin mist coats. The material displaces moisture.
- Remove excess overspray with a mild solvent, such as mineral spirits or a bug and tar remover.
- Apply as shown to the inner surfaces of the door shell on all internal metal surfaces using the most suitable applicator. Apply material to exposed edges after completing the welding process. Make sure horizontal surfaces are well protected, as they are more susceptible to corrosion. Keep the door drain holes clear to prevent moisture accumulation.
Material: ValuGard™ Rust Inhibitor / VG104, VG104A
- Apply to the enclosed part of the spot weld channel at the flange areas. Apply to exposed edges after the welding process. Make sure horizontal surfaces are well protected, as they are more susceptible to corrosion.
