Inspection

Check whether the automatic light control operates as shown in the timing chart below. The rear combination lamp output and the headlamp (Low) output are controlled based on the input signal from the auto light sensor (illuminance) when the Auto Light switch on the multifunction switch is ON and the vehicle is in IGN1 or IGN2 ON mode. If IGN1 = ON, the BCM monitors this voltage, and if the voltage is out of the specified range, the auto light system malfunctions. (Below 4 V or above 6 V)
  • Fail-safe operation: If the auto light system malfunctions, the headlamps are turned on regardless of the sunlight level. This prevents the headlamps from turning off at night when an auto light system malfunction occurs.
In the IGN1 ON state, when the multifunction switch module detects the Auto Light switch ON, the rear combination lamp relay output and the headlamp low relay output are controlled according to the input signal from the auto light sensor. The automatic light control does not operate if the sunlight sensor power source (5 V regulated power supply from IGN1 to the sunlight sensor) is shorted to ground. If IGN1 is ON, the BCM monitors the range of this power source and sets a malfunction as soon as the supply voltage is out of the allowable range. This malfunction is then set, and while it is present, the headlamps are turned on regardless of the sunlight level detected by the sensor. This is to prevent the headlamps from turning off when the malfunction occurs at night.

Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Using a flat-tip screwdriver (-), remove the auto light sensor (A) from the upper side of the airbag.
  3. Disconnect the auto light sensor connector.

Installation

  1. Connect the auto light sensor connector.
  2. Install the auto light sensor.
