Inspection

   Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels face straight ahead.

   Measure the distance the steering wheel can be turned without moving the front wheels.

   Standard value: 30 mm (1.18 in.) or less

   If the play exceeds the standard value, inspect the steering column, shaft and steering linkage.

   Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the power steering fluid reservoir in a vertical position.

   Attach a spring scale to the steering wheel. With the engine running between 900 and 1100 rpm, pull the scale and read the value as soon as the wheels start to turn.

   Standard value: 3.0 kgf or less

   If the measured value exceeds the standard value, adjust the steering gear.
