Emission Control System
Description and Operation
In this manual: Emission Control System
~1min read
Description
The emission control system consists of three main systems.- The crankcase emission control system prevents crankcase gases from being released into the atmosphere. This system recirculates the gas back to the intake manifold (closed-type crankcase ventilation).
- The evaporative emission control system prevents fuel vapor from being released into the atmosphere. This system stores the vapor in the canister and burns it when the engine is in the appropriate operating condition.
- The exhaust emission control system converts the three pollutants [hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)] into harmless substances using the three-way catalytic converter.
