Recommended Lubricants and Capacities
To ensure proper engine and transmission performance and durability, use only lubricants of the proper quality. Correct lubricants also help improve engine efficiency, resulting in improved fuel economy.

CAUTION
Always keep the area around the filler plug, drain plug or dipstick clean before checking or draining any lubricant. This is especially important in dusty or sandy areas and when the vehicle is used on unpaved roads. Cleaning the plug and dipstick area will prevent dirt and sand from entering the engine and other mechanisms, which could cause damage.
The viscosity (thickness) of engine oil affects fuel economy and cold weather operation (engine starting and oil flow). Low-viscosity engine oils can provide better fuel economy and cold weather performance; however, engine oils with higher viscosity are required for adequate lubrication in hot weather.
Using oil of any viscosity other than the recommended viscosity may cause engine damage.
When selecting oil, consider the temperature range in which your vehicle will be operated until the next oil change. Refer to the table below to select the recommended oil viscosity.
