Service Adjustment Procedure

Steering Wheel Play Inspection

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels point straight ahead.
  2. Measure the distance the steering wheel can be turned without moving the front wheels.

    Specification: 0–30 mm (1.1811 in) or less

  3. If the play exceeds the specified value, inspect the steering column, shaft, and linkage.

Stationary Steering Effort Inspection

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times to warm up the power steering fluid.
  3. Attach a spring scale to the steering wheel. With the engine running at 500 - 700 rpm, pull the scale and read the value as soon as the tires start to turn.

    Specification: 3.0 kgf

  4. If the measured value exceeds the specified value, inspect the power steering gear and pump.
