Driving Your Vehicle
WARNING
Carbon monoxide (CO) is poisonous. Inhaling CO can cause loss of consciousness and death.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which cannot be seen or smelled.
Do not breathe engine exhaust.
If at any time you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately. Carbon monoxide exposure can cause loss of consciousness and death by asphyxiation.
Make sure the exhaust system does not leak.
The exhaust system should be inspected whenever the vehicle is raised for oil change or for any other purpose. If you notice a change in exhaust sound or if you drive over something that strikes the underbody of the vehicle, have the exhaust system inspected as soon as possible by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Do not start the engine in an enclosed area.
Never leave the engine running idle in a garage, even if the garage door is open. This is a dangerous practice. Start the engine only for as long as necessary to start it and drive the vehicle out of the garage.
Avoid prolonged engine idling when there are people in the vehicle.
If it is necessary to idle the engine for an extended period with people in the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set to FRESH and the fan control set to high so that fresh air flows inside.
Keep the air intakes clean.
To ensure proper ventilation system operation, keep the air intakes located in front of the windshield clear of snow, ice, leaves and other obstructions. If you must drive with the rear door open:
Close all windows.
Open the instrument panel vents. Set the airflow control to the 'Fresh' position, the airflow control to the 'Floor' or 'Face' position, and the fan control to high.
