Emergency Procedures

If the engine does not start and the crankshaft turns too slowly

~1min read

1. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, move the selector lever to “N” (Neutral) or “P” (Park); apply the parking brake.
2. Check that the battery terminal clamps are clean and securely connected.
3. Turn on the interior lights. If the lights dim or go out when the starter operates, the battery must be charged.
4. Check the starter motor terminal connections: they must be firmly connected.
5. Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine.

Refer to “Jump Starting”.

WARNING

If the engine does not start, do not push or tow the vehicle to start it. This may cause a collision or other damage.

Starting the engine this way may also overheat the catalytic converter and create a risk of fire.
