Child Restraint System
WARNING
Always properly secure children in the rear seats of the vehicle. Children of all ages are safer when secured in the rear seat. A child riding in the front passenger seat may be struck severely by a deploying airbag, resulting in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
Children under 13 years of age should always ride in the rear seats and should always be properly secured to minimize the risk of injury in a crash, sudden stop, or sharp maneuver.
According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly secured in the rear seat than in the front seat. Even with airbags, children can be seriously injured or killed. Children too large for a child restraint should use the seat belts provided.
All 50 states have child restraint laws that require children to travel in approved child restraint systems. Laws regarding age or height/weight limits for when seat belts may be used instead of child restraints vary by state, so you should know the specific requirements in your state and where you are traveling.
Child restraint systems must be properly positioned and installed in the rear seat. You should use a commercially available child restraint system that meets the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
Child restraint systems are generally designed to be secured to the vehicle seat using the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt or using the LATCH system in the rear seats of the vehicle.
Child Restraint System (CRS)
Infants and young children must be restrained in a rear-facing or forward-facing CRS that has first been properly secured in the rear seat of the vehicle. Read and follow the installation and use instructions provided by the manufacturer of the child restraint.
WARNING
An improperly secured child restraint may increase the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH in a crash. Always observe the following precautions when using a child restraint system:
- NEVER install a child restraint or infant seat in the front passenger seat.
- Always securely fasten the child restraint in the rear seat of the vehicle.
- Always follow the child restraint manufacturer's instructions for installation and use.
- Always properly secure the child in the child restraint.
- Do not use a car bed or child safety seat that "hooks" over the seatbacks; it may not provide proper protection in a crash.
- After an accident, have the child restraint system, seat belts, anchorages and lower anchors checked by a HYUNDAI dealer.
