Recommended SAE Viscosity Index

CAUTION

Always clean the area around the oil filler cap, drain plug or dipstick before checking or draining lubricant. This is especially important in dusty or sandy areas and when driving on unpaved roads. Cleaning the filler cap and dipstick area prevents dirt and sand from entering the engine and other mechanisms, which could be damaged.

Engine oil viscosity (thickness) affects fuel economy and operation in cold weather (engine starting and engine oil flow). Lower viscosity engine oils may provide better fuel economy and cold-weather performance; however, higher viscosity engine oils are necessary for adequate lubrication in hot weather.

Using oils of any viscosity other than the recommended ones may cause engine damage. When selecting oil, consider the temperature range in which the vehicle will be operated before the next oil change. Refer to the recommended oil viscosity in the table below.

*1 For best fuel economy, SAE 5W-20 (API SM/ILSAC GF-4) engine oil is recommended. However, if this engine oil is not available in your country, select a suitable engine oil according to the engine oil viscosity table.
