Has a fail-safe mechanism that maintains 4th gear in "limp home" mode so that the vehicle can be driven to the owner's home or dealer. Fail-safe: The TCM maintains 4th gear and reverse gear in case of a malfunction. Limp Home: Maintains minimum functionality (drive (4th gear hold), reverse) in case of a malfunction, allowing the vehicle to reach the dealer. Self-Diagnosis: The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) constantly communicates with the control system components (sensors and solenoids). If an abnormal signal is received for longer than the specified time, the TCM detects the malfunction, stores the DTC in memory, and then outputs the malfunction signal through the self-diagnosis terminal. Such DTCs are stored and are not erased even when the ignition switch is turned off, the battery is disconnected, or the TCM connector is disconnected.
