Important Safety Notice

Proper service methods and repair procedures are essential for the safe, reliable operation of all vehicles, as well as for the personal safety of the operator. The service procedures and descriptions in this repair manual contain general directions for service and repair. Procedures, methods, tools and parts for service, including the technician's skill level, vary. It is impossible to give advice or warnings for every case in this manual. Accordingly, anyone who intends to use a replacement part, service procedure, or tool not recommended by the vehicle manufacturer must first make certain that neither their personal safety nor the safe operation of the vehicle will be endangered by the replacement part, service procedure, or tool they select. The following list contains some general WARNINGS that you must follow when working on the vehicle.
  • Always wear safety glasses to protect your eyes.
  • Use safety stands whenever a procedure requires you to be under the vehicle.
  • Make sure the ignition switch is always in the OFF position, unless otherwise required by the procedure.
  • Engage the parking brake when working on the vehicle. If the vehicle has an automatic transaxle, place the shift lever in P (Park) unless otherwise specified for the specific operation.
  • Place wheel chocks against the front and rear surfaces of the tires to help prevent vehicle movement.
  • To avoid the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning, run the engine only in a well-ventilated area.
  • Keep yourself and your clothing away from moving parts when the engine is running, especially the drive belts.
  • To avoid serious burns, avoid contact with hot metal parts such as the radiator, exhaust manifold, exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, and muffler.
  • Do not smoke while working on the vehicle.
  • To avoid injury, always remove rings, watches, loose jewelry, and loose clothing before working on the vehicle.
  • When working under the hood, keep hands and other objects away from the radiator cooling fan blades. Your vehicle may be equipped with a cooling fan that can start even when the ignition switch is in the OFF position. For this reason, make sure the radiator cooling fan motor is completely disconnected when working under the hood and the engine is not running.
