Ignition Coil Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The ignition coil is an induction coil in the engine ignition system that converts the low voltage of the battery into the high voltage required to create an electric spark at the spark plug to ignite the fuel. Some coils have an internal resistor, while others rely on a resistor wire or external resistor to limit current. The coil receives 12 V power from the battery.
