Charging the battery

~1min read
WARNING

Charge the battery only in a well-ventilated area. Gas emissions and explosions that can occur during charging may injure you or others, damage paintwork or corrode vehicle components.

For information on chargers that can charge the battery while installed, contact a qualified workshop.

WARNING

Acid contained in the gases escaping from the battery during charging can cause burns. Do not lean over the battery while charging.

WARNING

The electrolyte is corrosive. Avoid any contact with skin, eyes or clothing.

Never charge the battery while it is installed in the vehicle unless you use a charger tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. This type of charger allows the battery to be charged while installed. Always use a charger equipped with a charging voltage limiter of 14.8 V maximum.

Charge the battery only via the jump-start point.

The jump-start point is located in the engine compartment.

Before charging the battery, we recommend reading the charger's operating instructions.

  • Open the hood.
  • Connect the charger to the positive terminal and to ground in the same order as when jump-starting the engine from another battery.
