Driving and parking

Important safety notes

WARNING

The pedal travel must not be obstructed. Make sure that no objects are on the driver's footwell. Make sure that floor mats or carpets do not obstruct the pedal travel and are properly secured.

Do not stack multiple floor mats.

WARNING

On slippery roads, do not downshift to brake the vehicle. Otherwise, the driven wheels may lose traction and the vehicle may skid. You could then lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident.

WARNING

If you hold the vehicle stationary on a hill by pressing the accelerator pedal, the clutch may overheat. If the clutch overheats, a warning signal sounds and a message appears in the multifunction display. The clutch may then interrupt torque transmission. The vehicle may then start to roll. This may cause an accident.

You may only continue driving once the clutch has cooled down and the message disappears from the multifunction display.

Never hold the vehicle stationary on a hill by pressing the accelerator pedal.

Instead, always hold the vehicle stationary on a hill

  • by pressing the brake pedal

or

  • by activating the HOLD function

or

  • by applying the electric parking brake
Remember that the transmission of power between the engine and the transmission is interrupted when you switch off the engine. Therefore, when the engine is switched off and the vehicle is stationary, shift the automatic transmission to P (Park) and apply the electric parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling away.
