Cleaning and protecting the vehicle interior
The following procedures will help protect the vehicle interior and keep it in optimal condition:
Protecting the vehicle interior
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner. Wipe dirty surfaces with a cloth dampened with warm water.
Cleaning leather surfaces
- Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner.
- Remove excess dirt and dust with a soft cloth dampened with diluted detergent.
Cleaning synthetic leather surfaces
- Remove loose dirt using a vacuum cleaner.
- Use a solution of mild soap on synthetic leather with a sponge or soft cloth.
- Let the solution act for a few minutes. Remove the dirt and wipe off the solution with a damp, clean cloth.
■ Caring for leather surfaces Toyota recommends cleaning the vehicle interior at least twice a year to keep it in optimal condition.
■ Washing the floor mats Various types of foaming cleaners are available. Use a sponge or brush to apply the foam. Scrub in overlapping circles. Do not use water. Scrub dirty surfaces and let dry. Excellent results are obtained by keeping the mat as dry as possible.
■ Seat belts Clean with mild soap and warm water using a cloth or sponge.
Periodically check that the belts are not excessively worn, frayed or cut.
NOTICE ■ Water in the vehicle. Do not spray or spill liquids on the vehicle.
Otherwise, a fire or malfunction of electrical components, etc. may result.
■ Cleaning the interior (especially the instrument panel) Do not use car wax or polish. The instrument panel may reflect on the windshield, impairing the driver's view and causing an accident, resulting in serious or fatal injury.
NOTE
■ Cleaning agents
- Do not use the following types of cleaner, as they may discolor the vehicle interior or streak and damage painted surfaces:
- Non-seat parts: Organic substances such as benzene or gasoline, alkaline or acidic solutions, dyes and bleaches
- Seats: Acidic or alkaline solutions, such as thinners, benzene and alcohol
- Do not use car wax or polish. The painted surface of the instrument panel or other interior parts may be damaged.
■ To avoid damaging leather surfaces Observe the following precautions to avoid damaging and deteriorating leather surfaces:
- Remove dust or dirt from leather surfaces immediately.
- Do not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods. Park the vehicle in the shade, especially in summer.
- Do not place vinyl, plastic or wax-containing items on the seat upholstery, as they may stick to the leather if the vehicle interior becomes too hot.
■ Water on the floor Do not wash the vehicle floor with water.
Water contacting electrical components such as the audio system above or below the vehicle floor may damage interior systems such as the audio system. Water may also cause the body to rust.
■ When cleaning the inside of the windshield (vehicles with front sensor) Take care not to touch the front sensor. If the camera is accidentally scratched or struck, the PCS and LDA systems may not function properly or may malfunction.
■ Cleaning the inside of the rear window
- Do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as it may damage the rear window defroster heater wires. Use a cloth dampened with warm water and gently clean the window. Wipe the rear window in directions parallel to the heater wires.
- Take care not to scratch or damage the heater wires.
