Removing

Vehicles with side airbag

WARNING Observe general safety regulations when working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery isolator units (pyrotechnic components) → Chapter.
  • Disconnect battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410

Continued for all vehicles

  • Remove bench seat → Chapter.
Removing and installing side padding
  • Unscrew nut -1-.
  • Fold down rear seat backrest.
  • Detach retaining lug -3- from body.
  • Pull side padding with retaining brackets -2- and -4- upwards.

Vehicles with side airbag

  • Disconnect wire for side airbag on side padding.

Installing

Install in reverse order, but note the following:

Vehicles with side airbag

  • Switch on ignition.
WARNING

Ensure that nobody is in vehicle.
  • Connect vehicle battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
Note If airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, deleted and then read again → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
