Opening the Hood

1. Pull the hood release handle to release the hood latch.

The hood should open slightly.

WARNUNG

Open the hood after turning off the engine on a level surface. Shift the transmission to P (Park) on vehicles with an automatic transmission, or to 1st gear or R (Reverse) on vehicles with a manual transmission, and apply the parking brake.

2. Stand at the front of the vehicle, lift the hood slightly, pull the secondary latch (1) toward the center of the hood, and raise the hood (2).

3. Remove the hood prop rod from its holder on the hood.
4. Place the hood prop rod into the support slot.

- Hot components

Do not touch the prop rod when the engine and engine components are hot. You may be burned or seriously injured.

Closing the Hood

1. Before closing the hood, check the following:

• All filler caps in the engine compartment must be installed correctly.
• Remove gloves, rags, and any other flammable materials from the engine compartment.
2. Return the hood prop rod to its clips to prevent rattling.
3. Lower the hood to approximately 30 cm (12 in) from the closed position and release it. Make sure the hood is latched.

• Before closing the hood, make sure all obstructions are removed from the hood opening.

Closing the hood with an obstruction in its opening may cause injury to persons or damage to property.
• Do not leave gloves, rags, or any other flammable materials in the engine compartment.

They may ignite due to high temperature.

WARNUNG

• Before driving, make sure the hood is securely latched. Otherwise the hood may open while driving, resulting in complete loss of driver visibility, which may cause a traffic accident.
• When inspecting the engine compartment, the hood prop rod must always be fully inserted into its designated slot on the hood.

This prevents the hood from falling and possibly causing injury.
• Do not drive the vehicle with the hood open, as visibility will be restricted and the hood may fall or be damaged.
