Pre-driving checks

  • Check tire pressure and tire condition.
  • Check the engine oil and other fluid levels.
  • Check that all windows, exterior mirrors and exterior lights operate correctly and are not dirty, snow-covered or iced over, and that license plates are clean and legible.
  • Check that the mirrors, seats and seat belts are correctly adjusted.
  • Accelerate to a low speed and check that the brakes operate correctly (especially when wet).

Starting the engine

  • Turn the key to position 1.

    Turn the steering wheel slightly to release the steering lock.

  • Manual transmission: press the clutch pedal.
  • Automatic transmission: move the selector lever to P or N.
  • Do not press the accelerator pedal.
  • Diesel engines: turn the ignition key to position 2 to preheat the engine, until the ! indicator goes off.
  • Press the clutch and brake pedals, turn the key to the START position and release it when the engine starts.

Before restarting the engine or to switch it off, return the key to position 0.
