Folding the rear seatbacks
Unsecured luggage or passengers on folded seatbacks may move uncontrollably inside the cabin during sudden braking or a collision, or even be thrown out of the vehicle. This can be very dangerous to health or even fatal.
To fold down each rear seatback:
Caution Folding the rear seat with the seat belts still anchored may damage the seat or the seat belts. Before folding the rear seat, always unlatch the seat belts and let them retract to their normal, stowed position.
- Press the head restraints down by pressing the release catches.
Caution Slide the front seat forward and set its backrest upright to provide enough space to operate the rear seat cushion.

- Pull the release lever located at the top of the rear seat backrest and fold the backrest forward and down.

- Engage the seat belts of the outer seats in the guides.
To restore the original position of the backrest, pull the seat belts out of the guides and raise the backrest.
Press the backrest firmly.
Check that the seat belts are not pinched between the seat cushion and the backrest.
When raising the backrest, the center seat belt may lock.
If this happens, let the belt retract fully and start again.
To restore the normal position of the rear seat cushion, set its rear part back in its original position, making sure the straps with the seat belt buckles are not twisted or tucked under the seat cushion, then press the front part of the seat cushion so that it latches in the correct position.
Caution When returning the rear seatback to the upright position, place the seat belt and buckles between the seatback and one of the seat cushions. Make sure the rear seat belts and buckles are not trapped under the rear seat cushion.Make sure the seat belts are not twisted or pinched under the backrest and are routed in their correct positions.
Warning Before driving, make sure the rear seatbacks occupied by passengers are locked in the upright position. Do not pull the release levers on the top edge of the seatback while driving. This may result in personal injury and vehicle damage.
Caution Folding a rear seat while the seat belts are still fastened may damage the seat or the seat belts. Before folding the rear seat, always unlatch the seat belts and let them retract to their normal, stowed position.
Warning Do not carry passengers on a folded seatback. It is not a proper seating position and passengers cannot be secured with the seat belts. This could result in serious injury or death in an accident or sudden braking.Items carried on the folded backrest should not extend above the top of the front seats. Otherwise, the load could move forward and cause injury or vehicle damage in the event of sudden braking.
