Refer to: Diagnostic Methods (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation). - If equipped with a keyless entry keypad, enter the keypad code to allow the diagnostic scan tool session to be established. Proceed to step 3 below.
- If not equipped, allow the alarm to activate for 10 minutes, after which there is a 1-minute access window in which the diagnostic scan tool session can be established. Continue with the following steps:
- To avoid interference from the horn, remove the horn fuse or the anti-theft alarm horn fuse.
- Using the diagnostic scan tool, establish communication with the vehicle.
- Select TOOLBOX>PCM or SOBDMC (if equipped) or BCM (some vehicles) in the HS-CAN1 module list> PATS Programming or ABS (if equipped) in the HS-CAN2 or HS2 or FD-CAN module list (some models)> PATS Program, but do not check the box to continue.
- If equipped with a hood latch switch and the hood is open, to charge the battery, set the hood latch to the closed position.
- Latch the driver's door to prevent the door from being ajar message in the BCM and leave the driver's door open to allow access to the DLC and ignition lock cylinder or start button. Make sure all other doors, the liftgate, the luggage compartment lid and/or the tailgate are closed.
- If the exterior lamps do not flash to signal an alarm event, disconnect and reconnect the battery.
- Select PATS Programming, then select the appropriate function to erase keys. Check the appropriate boxes until a screen appears indicating that 2 keys must be programmed to start the vehicle. Check the box on this screen to continue. An error may be reported on the next screen. Ignore this error. Exit the diagnostic scan tool and select PATS Programming a second time. Continue until a screen appears advising to turn the ignition on, or the PATS Programming main menu is displayed. Do not check the box on this screen or continue further.
- The process of requesting key erasure with the diagnostic scan tool starts a 10-minute timer in the BCM, which must expire before the 1-minute DLC access window appears.
- Reinstall the horn or anti-theft alarm horn fuse after the exterior and interior lamps stop flashing. This occurs within 4-5 minutes after the key erase command is sent from the diagnostic scan tool. After another 5-6 minutes (9-11 minutes from the initial DLC access point of the diagnostic scan tool), a single chime sounds, indicating that the 1-minute data link access time period has started. Proceed immediately to step 5. If the single chime is not heard, repeat the procedure starting from step 1.
- If equipped with a keyless entry keypad, enter the keypad code to allow the diagnostic scan tool session to be established. Proceed to step 3 below.
- Using the diagnostic scan tool, select TOOLBOX>PCM or SOBDMC (if equipped) or BCM (some vehicles) in the HS-CAN1 module list> PATS Programming or ABS (if equipped) in the HS-CAN2 or FD-CAN module list (some models)> PATS Programming.
- Select the appropriate procedure and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When the "Security Access" screen appears, make sure the diagnostic scan tool is connected to the Internet, then select Yes to continue. If directed to this step from the alarm activation actions above for vehicles without keyless entry keypad, select Erase Keys.
- Return to the diagnostic scan tool window and follow the on-screen instructions. The door locks and alarm cycle to indicate when the key has been programmed successfully. After programming the first key and selecting OK, place the second key in the backup key location and select Program Key to program the second key. Start the vehicle; if it does not start, select PATS Functions and perform a Reset Parameters or Module Initialization for the BCM, PCM, SOBDMC (if equipped) or ABS module (if equipped), as required. If the vehicle still does not start, repeat the procedure starting from Step 1.
