205-086 (T74P-4635-C) Installer/Remover, C-Frame and Screw

DISASSEMBLY

NOTICE: Never clamp the driveshaft assembly in a vise or similar holding device. Dents or localized cracks may occur, which will cause driveshaft failure during vehicle operation.

1. 1
   Remove the front driveshaft.
   Refer to: Front Driveshaft (205-01 Driveshaft, Removal and Installation).

   Remove and discard the snap rings.

   Using the special service tool, press the U-joint bearing cups out of the spline-stub-shaft yoke and remove the spline-stub-shaft yoke.
   Use special service tool: 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) Installer/Remover, C-Frame and Screw.

   Using the special service tool, press the U-joint bearing cups out of the driveshaft yoke. Remove and discard the U-joint.
   Use special service tool: 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) Installer/Remover, C-Frame and Screw.

   Clean and inspect the U-joint bearing cup surfaces.

   

ASSEMBLY

1. 1
   Lubricate the U-joint bearing cup bores.
   Material: Motorcraft® Premium Long-Life Grease / XG-1-E1 (ESA-M1C75-B)

   Using the special service tool, install a new U-joint cross and bearing cups into the driveshaft yoke.
   Use special service tool: 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) Installer/Remover, C-Frame and Screw.

   Install the new bearing cup snap rings into the driveshaft yoke grooves.

   Using the special service tool, install new bearing cups into the opposite side of the spline-stub-shaft yoke.
   Use special service tool: 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) Installer/Remover, C-Frame and Screw.

   Install the new bearing cup snap rings into the spline-stub-shaft yoke grooves.

   Rotate the spline-stub-shaft yoke to make sure the U-joints rotate freely without binding before installing the driveshaft.

   

7. 7
   Install the front driveshaft.
