    • For vehicles being scrapped, cut each airbag wire next to the electrical connector that connects to the vehicle wiring harness.
    • For vehicles not being scrapped, obtain the appropriate pigtail harness kit. REFER TO the wiring diagrams manual.
  4. Remove the insulation (if equipped) and strip the insulation from the ends of the cut wires.
  5. For airbags with multiple loops, twist the wires from each loop together, then repeat for the remaining wires from each loop.
    • Make a jumper harness to deploy the airbag module by obtaining 2 wires (minimum 20 gauge) at least 9.14 m (30 ft) long.
    • On one end of the jumper harness, connect the wires together.
  6. Using the end of the jumper harness where the wires are not connected, connect each wire of the jumper harness to each airbag wire, or to the twisted wires if there are multiple loops. Use tape or other insulating material to make sure the wires do not contact each other.
  7. For driver airbags, with the tire and wheel assembly at the bottom of the vertical stack, carefully place the driver airbag, with the trim cover facing up, on the wheel.
    • For passenger, knee, and side airbags, lay the tire stack on its side.
    • Place the airbag in the center tire so that there are 2 tires below the tire containing the airbag and 2 tires (including the tire and wheel assembly) above the tire containing the airbag.
    • Stand the tire stack upright so that the wheel is on top.
  8. Stay at least 9.14 m (30 ft) away from the airbag.
  9. From the end of the jumper harness that is not connected to the airbag, separate the 2 jumper harness wires from each other.
  10. Deploy the airbag by touching the ends of the 2 jumper harness wires to the terminals of the 12-volt battery.
  11. To allow cooling, wait at least 10 minutes before approaching the deployed airbag.
