Programming
- When replacing the APIM, do not connect the new APIM to a Wi-Fi network until the scan tool APIM replacement programming is complete, as this may cause programming issues.
- This programming procedure deletes all phones paired to the SYNC system.
- To prevent timeout errors and minimize programming time, a wired Internet connection is strongly recommended during programming.
- A USB flash drive with a minimum capacity of 32 gigabytes (GB) is required for this procedure (obtain locally).
- Some software files are large, so additional time is required to download them.
- It is important that the diagnostic scan tool has enough free hard drive space to store the downloaded software file.
- If the message "Disk Space Error" is received, create additional free space on the hard drive.
- A diagnostic scan tool is required.
- Make sure the FDRS version and software levels are up to date.
- Connect the diagnostic scan tool to a power supply because of the duration of programming.
- Connect the diagnostic scanner to the DLC.
- Identify/enter the vehicle to be programmed in FDRS.
- Select TOOLBOX>APIM from the HS-CAN1 module list.
- Standard APIM Programming — used to update the APIM and any currently installed applications to the latest software levels. This option is not available if the APIM is already at the latest level.
- APIM Configuration Programming — used to download configuration data to the APIM. The APIM can also be reprogrammed, depending on the current software level, when this option is selected.
- APIM Replacement Programming — used when the APIM has been replaced. This type of programming performs the required initialization (software restore for newly installed hardware).
- Follow the diagnostic scan tool on-screen prompts.
- When prompted, connect the USB flash drive to the diagnostic scan tool.
- Make sure the USB flash drive is formatted correctly. To view available drives, press and hold the Windows key on the keyboard, then press the E key. Right-click the removable drive and select Properties. If the File System on the General tab is not exFAT, the drive must be formatted. To format the flash drive, right-click the removable drive, select Format, select exFAT for the file system, and select Default allocation size for the allocation unit size. Clear the Quick Format check box. Quick format is not required and results in a longer operation.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download the software to the flash drive.
- When prompted by the diagnostic scanner, safely remove the flash drive from the diagnostic scanner and connect it to the USB hub to install the software in the APIM. The update starts automatically and may take 10 minutes or more. An APIM reset at this stage is normal.
- When the "Installation Complete" pop-up message appears, select Close, then remove the flash drive from the USB hub. An APIM reset at this stage is normal.
- After programming is complete, the diagnostic scanner displays "Programming Successfully Completed."
