Active Grille Shutter - Overview. Description and Operation
Overview
The Active Grille Shutter system (if equipped) consists of the grille shutter assembly and the grille shutter actuator. The Active Grille Shutter system is primarily used to maximize fuel economy by reducing the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle. The Active Grille Shutter system is also used to reduce engine warm-up time and improve passenger compartment heating efficiency. The grille shutter actuator receives position commands from the PCM. The Active Grille Shutter system performs a calibration sequence at every engine start, fully opening and closing the shutters before moving to the position requested by the PCM.
PCM inputs/outputs that may be used to control the grille shutters:
- ECT Sensor
- Intake Air Temperature Sensor
- A/C Pressure Sensor
- Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor
- ABS module (via HS-CAN)
- AAT sensor (ambient air temperature)
- TCT sensor (turbocharger temperature)
- MCT sensor (charge air cooler manifold temperature)
- TOT sensor (transmission oil temperature)
- Engine cooling fan motor
- Engine oil temperature
