Communication Network - Overview. Description and Operation

~1min read

Overview

Multiplexing is a method of sending two or more signals simultaneously over one circuit. Multiplexing allows two or more electronic modules (nodes) to communicate over a twisted pair [data (+) and data (-)]. The information or messages that can be transmitted over these wires consist of commands, status or data. The advantage of using multiplexing is a reduction in vehicle weight due to fewer backup components and less wiring.

The vehicle has 2 modular communication networks connected to the DLC, located under the instrument panel. The communication networks are:

  • High-Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN)
  • Medium-Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN)
