  • Customer Spare Key Programming Enable/Disable
  • Unlimited Key Mode On/Off (vehicles without pushbutton start)
  • Unlimited Key Code Program (vehicles without pushbutton start)
  1. Using the diagnostic scan tool, establish communication with the vehicle.
Refer to: Diagnostic Methods (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
    • If equipped with a keyless entry keypad, enter the keypad code to allow the diagnostic scan tool session to be established. Proceed to step 3 below.
      • If it is not installed, allow the alarm to activate for 10 minutes, after which there is a 1-minute access window where the diagnostic scan tool session can be established. Proceed to the following steps:
    • To avoid interference from the horn, remove the horn fuse.
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, establish a session with the vehicle. If the vehicle is equipped with a pushbutton start, the empty-path vehicle identification method (tear-off label) must be used.
    • Select TOOLBOX> Body> Security> PATS Functions, but do not check the box to continue.
    • If equipped with a hood latch switch and the hood is open, to charge the battery, set the hood latch to the closed position.
    • Latch the driver door latch to prevent the ajar door message from being sent to the BCM, and leave the driver door open to allow access to the DLC and the ignition lock or press the start button. Make sure all other doors, the liftgate, the luggage compartment lid and the tailgate are closed.
    • If the exterior lamps do not flash to signal an alarm event, disconnect and reconnect the battery.
    • Select PATS Functions, then select the appropriate function to erase the keys. Check the appropriate boxes until the screen indicates that 2 keys must be programmed for the vehicle to start. Select the check box on this screen to continue. An error may be reported on the next screen. Ignore this error. Exit this diagnostic scan tool and select PATS Functions a second time. Continue until the screen prompting to turn the ignition on appears, or until the main PATS Functions menu appears. Do not check the box on this screen and do not continue further.
    • The key erase request process using the diagnostic scan tool starts a 10-minute timer in the BCM, which must expire before the 1-minute DLC access window appears.
    • Insert the horn fuse after the interior and exterior lights stop flashing. This occurs within 4-5 minutes after the key erase command was sent from the diagnostic scan tool. After another 5-6 minutes (9-11 minutes from the initial DLC access point of the diagnostic scan tool), the horn will sound one time, indicating that the 1-minute data link access time period has started. Proceed immediately to step 5. If the single horn chirp is not heard, repeat the procedure starting at step 1.
NOTE: Depending on the diagnostic scan tool power settings, it may sometimes be necessary to connect a mouse/keyboard to prevent the power-saving mode from being entered. The diagnostic scan tool session is interrupted within 10 minutes, leaving a 1-minute access window. Also make sure the service website publishing session is active and has not timed out on the laptop or PC used for this procedure.
  2. Using the diagnostic scan tool, select TOOLBOX>Body>Security>PATS Functions.
  3. Select the appropriate procedure and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. When the "Security Access Required" screen appears, make sure the diagnostic scanner is connected to the Internet, and select "Yes" to continue. If the activation action from the alarm above is indicated for vehicles without Keyless Entry Keypad, select "Erase Keys".
  5. Select "Dealer" or "Aftermarket" and enter a valid username and password when prompted.
  6. Return to the diagnostic scanner screen and follow the on-screen instructions. The door locks and horn will cycle to indicate when the key has been programmed successfully. Start the vehicle; if it does not start, select PATS Programming and perform a parameter reset or module initialization for the BCM, PCM or ABS module as necessary. If the vehicle still does not start, repeat the procedure starting from step 1. If the vehicle does not start after the second attempt, refer to step 8 below.
    • Remove the horn fuse to avoid interference from the alarm.
    • Select TOOLS > Body > Security > PATS Functions, but do not select the check box to continue.
    • Disconnect and reconnect the battery, then open and close the driver door to start the 10-minute alarm event. To prevent the alarm from shutting off after 5 minutes, the BCM requires an open door switch input. Open the driver door at the 4.5-minute mark from the start of the alarm event. At the 10-minute mark, the exterior and interior lamps stop flashing (and if the horn is still connected, it sounds a single chirp) to indicate that the 1-minute data link access period has started. Turn the ignition on (for vehicles with Push Button Start, press the button once).
    • Select "Erase and Program Keys", then immediately proceed to step 5 above.
Return to the diagnostic scanner screen and follow the on-screen instructions.
