Starting System - Overview - Description and Operation

~1min read

The starting system controls engine cranking. The starter is energized by the starter relay when the relay is activated by the PCM. The PCM receives inputs from the ignition switch (push-button start), automatic transmission, Run/Start relay and BCM before activating the starter relay to initiate engine cranking.

Starting System - with Remote Start

The remote start system allows the vehicle to be started from up to 50 meters (165 feet). For additional information on the remote start system, refer to the Owner's Literature and
Refer to: Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems - System Operation and Component Description (501-14 Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems, Description and Operation).

Starting System - with Auto-Start-Stop

The Auto-Start-Stop system helps reduce fuel consumption by automatically switching off and restarting the vehicle's engine when the vehicle has stopped. The Auto-Start-Stop system switches the engine off automatically when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The engine restarts automatically when the brake pedal is released. In some situations your vehicle may restart automatically, for example:

  • To maintain cabin comfort
  • To recharge the battery

For additional information on the Auto-Start-Stop system, REFER to the Literature and see the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual.
