C113A:11 or C113A:15
For wiring diagrams and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 23.
Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms
The wake-up control circuit wakes up the PCM before engine cranking. The PCM must wake up before a start request so that it has time to complete its initialization. The wake-up control circuit is controlled by the BCM. The BCM activates the wake-up control circuit when the driver door is opened, the key is inserted in the ignition lock, or when the ignition is in the ON or START position.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
| Trouble Code | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| C113A:11 | PCM Wake-Up Signal: Short to Ground | Set by the BCM when a short to ground is detected in the wake-up control circuit. |

P2534 or P2535
For circuit and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 20.
Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms
When the engine start/stop switch is pressed, the PCM receives a voltage signal on the start detection circuit. The PCM then supplies voltage and ground to the starter relay coil when the required inputs are received.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
| Trouble Code | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| P2534 | Ignition Switch Run/Start Circuit Low | This DTC sets when the PCM or BCM detects a low voltage on the start detection circuit with the engine running. |
| P2535 | Ignition Switch RUN/START Circuit - High Signal Level | This DTC sets when the PCM detects a short to battery voltage on the start detection circuit with the engine running. |

Component Test(s)
Starter - Positive Circuit Test
- Make sure the battery is fully charged.
Refer to: Battery (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Diagnosis and Testing). - Perform the battery drain test.
REFER TO: Battery Drain Test (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures). - Connect a remote starter switch between the starter solenoid "S" terminal and the battery positive terminal.
- Connect the positive multimeter lead to the battery positive post. Connect the negative lead to the starter solenoid "M" terminal.
- Place the gear selector lever in the Park or Neutral position.
- Activate the remote starter switch. Read and record the voltage. The voltage reading must be 0.5 volts or less.
- If the voltage reading is 0.5 V or less, perform the Starter - Ground Circuit Test in this section.
- A voltage reading above 0.5 volts indicates excessive resistance in the connections, the battery positive cable or the starter solenoid. Disconnect the cables from the solenoid "B", "C" and "M" terminals. Clean the cables and connections and reconnect the cables to their correct terminals. Repeat steps 3 through 6.
- If the voltage reading is still above 0.5 volts when checked at the "M" terminal, move the negative multimeter lead to the starter solenoid "B" terminal.
- With the gear selector lever in the Park or Neutral position, activate the remote starter switch. Read and record the voltage.
- If the voltage reading at the "B" terminal is below 0.5 volt, the problem is in the starter solenoid connections or the solenoid contacts. Install a new starter.
REFER TO: Starter Motor (303-06A Starting System - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) - I4, Removal and Installation). - If the voltage reading at the solenoid "B" terminal is above 0.5 volt after cleaning the cables and the solenoid connection, the problem is in the positive battery cable connection or the positive battery cable itself. Clean the positive battery cable connection. If this does not resolve the issue, install a new positive battery cable.
REFER TO: Battery Cables - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) - I4 (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
Starter - Ground Circuit Test
Slow cranking can be caused by high resistance in the ground or the starter circuit. This procedure tests the voltage drop in the ground circuit.
- Connect a remote starter switch between the starter solenoid "S" terminal and the battery positive terminal.
- Connect the positive multimeter lead to the starter motor housing. The connection must be clean, free of rust or grease. Connect the negative lead to the negative battery terminal.
- Place the gear selector lever in the Park or Neutral position.
- Activate the remote starter switch and crank the engine. Read and record the voltage reading. The reading must be 0.5 volts or less.
- If the voltage reading is more than 0.5 V, clean the negative battery cable connections, the body ground connections and the starter ground connection. Retest.
- If the voltage reading is above 0.5 volt, install a new negative battery cable.
REFER TO: Battery Cables - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) - I4 (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation). - If the voltage reading is below 0.5 volt and the engine still cranks slowly, install a new starter.
REFER TO: Starter Motor (303-06A Starting System - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) - I4, Removal and Installation).
