Body Corrosion Protection
There are two main groups of factors that commonly cause corrosion of vehicle components:
1. Accumulation of moisture in closed and poorly ventilated body cavities.
Accumulation of dirt and road salt mixtures used for winter road maintenance in the seams, holes, and cavities of the underbody.
2. Damage to the body paint or anti-corrosion protective coating on the underbody and in the wheel wells.
Honda uses a variety of technologies and materials to protect the vehicle from corrosion. However, you can help provide even more reliable corrosion protection for your vehicle by following the simple recommendations below.
• Repair chips and scratches in the body paint immediately.
• Periodically inspect and, if necessary, clean the drain holes in the doors and underbody body panels.
• Regularly inspect the condition of the floor mats and floor sound insulation pads. Carpets can retain moisture for a long time, especially in winter.
Constant wetting of the floor covering may cause corrosion of the body floor panels.
• Periodically wash the underbody and wheel wells of the vehicle with a strong stream of water. This is especially important if the vehicle is driven on roads treated with salt compounds in winter. Underbody washing is also useful for protecting the body when the vehicle is operated in humid climates or in areas where the air contains salt spray. When cleaning and washing the body, be careful not to damage the anti-lock braking system wheel sensors and their wiring.
• Periodically inspect the condition and, if necessary, restore the integrity of the anti-corrosion coating on the underbody.
