Event Data Recorders
Your vehicle is equipped with several devices called event data recorders. They record certain vehicle operating data in real time, such as airbag deployment signals or airbag system malfunctions. They also record vehicle system data at the moment the driver performs maneuvers to avoid a traffic accident. This category includes data on steering wheel rotation, brake system operation, and vehicle speed.
All information recorded by the data recorders is the property of the vehicle owner. Access to it by other persons is prohibited, except when it is carried out under a court order or with the permission of the owner himself.
However, access to this information may be obtained by Honda, its employees, authorized dealers and service facilities, representatives, and contractors, solely for the purpose of diagnosis, research, and improvement of the vehicle.
Diagnostic Data Recorders
Your vehicle is equipped with a number of service data recording devices that record information about powertrain operation and vehicle driving conditions. This information helps service personnel correctly perform diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of the vehicle. Access to this information is prohibited, except when it is carried out under a court order or with the permission of the vehicle owner. However, access to this information may be obtained by Honda, its employees, authorized dealers and service facilities, representatives, and contractors, solely for the purpose of diagnosis, research, and improvement of the vehicle.
When operating your vehicle, it is very important to follow safety rules in order to protect yourself and others as much as possible from possible injury or harm. The driver is responsible for the safety of driving and operating the vehicle.
For your safety, this Manual contains numerous and important warnings regarding driving, as well as rules for safe operation and maintenance of the vehicle. This information warns you of potential hazards that could result in serious consequences.
Of course, it is impossible to foresee every hazardous situation that may arise during vehicle operation or maintenance. Therefore, always use common sense, prudence, and caution.
Important safety information is provided to the vehicle owner in various forms, including the following:
• Warning labels.
Labels are affixed in various locations on the vehicle body.
• Hazard warnings.
An exclamation mark is used to visually highlight warning text
. Each warning is headed by one of three signal words: DANGER, WARNING, or CAUTION.
• Instructions for safe use and operation, such as reminders about the need to ensure safety or important safety rules.
• Sections devoted to safety issues, such as driver and passenger safety.
• Instructions for correct and safe vehicle operation.
This Manual contains a wide range of information on safe vehicle operation, so we strongly recommend that you read it carefully.
Important Features of Your Vehicle
Your vehicle has greater ground clearance than conventional passenger cars designed for paved roads only. Greater ground clearance provides many advantages when driving off-road. It allows you to drive over bumps and obstacles, as well as travel over rough terrain. It also provides a good view, so you can spot obstacles in advance.
However, these advantages come with some trade-offs. Because your vehicle has a greater overall height, its center of gravity is higher. This means that during sharp turns, your vehicle may tip over or roll over. Sport utility vehicles are much more prone to rollover than other vehicles. In the event of a rollover, occupants who are not wearing seat belts face a greater risk of death than those who are wearing them. Therefore, before driving, be sure that you and all passengers are wearing seat belts.
Information on how to reduce the risk of vehicle rollover is provided in the sections "Driving Your Vehicle" and "Off-Road Driving" of this manual. Incorrect driving techniques may cause loss of vehicle control and an accident.
In many countries, off-road driving is prohibited by law, for example, driving through forests, creating your own route, etc. Before leaving the road, check local laws and regulations.
