What to Do in an Emergency

If an Emergency Occurs While Driving

If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing

  • If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, shift the transmission to neutral, then push the vehicle to a safe location.
  • If your vehicle has a manual transmission and the ignition key cannot be used to move the vehicle forward, select second or third gear, then start the engine without depressing the clutch pedal.

If You Have a Flat Tire While Driving

If a tire goes flat while driving:

1. Release the accelerator pedal and let the vehicle slow down while keeping it in a straight line. Do not brake suddenly or attempt to leave the road, as this may cause loss of control. When the vehicle has slowed to a speed where braking is safe, brake gently and move off the road. Move as far away from the traffic lane as possible and park on a hard, level surface. If you are on a divided road, do not park in the median between the two lanes.

2. When the vehicle has stopped, turn on the hazard warning flasher, apply the parking brake, and shift the transmission to P (automatic transmission) or reverse (manual transmission).

3. Get all passengers out of the vehicle. Make sure they exit on the side away from traffic.

4. When replacing the flat tire, follow the instructions in this section.

If the Engine Stalls While Driving

1. Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully steer off the road to a safe location.

2. Turn on the hazard warning flasher.

3. Try to start the engine again. If the vehicle still does not start, we recommend contacting an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
