Recommended Lubricants and Capacities

To ensure proper engine and transmission performance and durability, use only lubricants of the proper quality. Correct lubricants also help improve engine efficiency, resulting in improved fuel economy.

These lubricants and fluids are recommended for use in your vehicle.

*2: Energy Conserving engine oils are now available. Along with other additional benefits, they help improve fuel economy by reducing the amount of fuel needed to overcome engine friction. Often these improvements are difficult to measure in daily driving, but over time they can offer significant savings in cost and energy.

CAUTION

Always clean the area around the filler cap, drain plug, or dipstick before checking or draining any lubricant. This is especially important in dusty or sandy areas and when the vehicle is driven on unpaved roads. Cleaning the cap and dipstick area will prevent dirt and sand from entering the engine and other components, which could be damaged.

Engine oil viscosity affects fuel economy and cold-weather operation (engine starting and oil flow). Engine oils with lower viscosity can provide better fuel economy; however, cold-weather performance is improved. Engine oils with higher viscosity are necessary for adequate lubrication in hot weather. Using oils of any viscosity other than the recommended ones may cause engine damage.

When selecting oil, consider the temperature range in which your vehicle will be operated until the next oil change. Refer to the table to select the recommended oil viscosity.
