WARNING

Carbon monoxide (CO) is poisonous. Inhaling CO can cause loss of consciousness and death. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which cannot be seen or smelled.

Do not breathe engine exhaust.

If at any time you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately. Exposure to CO can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation.

Make sure the exhaust system does not leak.

The exhaust system should be inspected whenever the vehicle is raised for oil changes or for any other purpose. If you hear a change in exhaust sound or if you drive over something that strikes the underside of the vehicle, we recommend having the exhaust system inspected at an authorized HYUNDAI service center as soon as possible.

Do not start the engine in an enclosed area.

Never let the engine run at idle in a garage, even if the garage door is open. This is a dangerous practice. Start the engine only long enough to get the vehicle out of the garage.

Avoid extended engine idling while people are in the vehicle. If it is necessary to idle the engine for an extended period with people in the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set to "Fresh" and the fan control set to high so that fresh air flows inside.

Keep the air intakes clean.

To ensure proper operation of the ventilation system, keep the ventilation air intakes in front of the windshield clear of snow, ice, leaves, and other obstructions.

If you must drive with the luggage compartment door open:

Close all windows. Open the instrument panel vents. Set the air intake control to "Fresh," the air flow control to "Floor" or "Face," and the fan control to high.
