Hybrid System Overview

HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) System

Hybrid Vehicle

The HYUNDAI Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) uses both a gasoline engine and an electric motor for power. The electric motor is powered by the HEV high voltage battery.

Depending on driving conditions, the HEV computer selectively operates the engine and the electric motor, or both at the same time.

Fuel efficiency improves when the engine is stopped at idle or when the vehicle is driven by the electric motor using the HEV battery.

The charge of the hybrid battery must be maintained, so the engine will occasionally run even at idle as a generator. Charging also occurs during deceleration or regenerative braking.
