Child Restraint System (CRS) Installation

~1min read

WARNING

Before installing a child restraint system, always:

Read and follow the instructions provided by the child restraint system manufacturer.

Failure to observe all warnings and instructions may increase the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH in the event of a collision.

WARNING

If the vehicle headrest interferes with the proper installation of the child restraint system, the headrest of the corresponding seat must be adjusted or completely removed.

After selecting a suitable child restraint system for your child and checking that it is correctly installed on the seat, there are three general steps for proper installation:

  • Properly secure the child restraint system to the vehicle. All child restraint systems must be secured to the vehicle using the lap belt, the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt, the ISOFIX upper tether and/or ISOFIX anchorages, and/or the support leg.
  • Make sure the child restraint system is securely installed. After installing the child restraint system in the vehicle, push and pull the system forward and from side to side to make sure it is firmly attached to the seat. A child restraint system secured with the seat belt must be installed as tightly as possible. However, some side-to-side movement can be expected. When installing the child restraint system, adjust the vehicle seat and seatback (up and down, forward and backward) so that your child can sit comfortably in the child restraint system.
  • Secure the child in the child restraint system. Make sure the child is properly secured in the child restraint system in accordance with the child restraint system manufacturer's instructions.

CAUTION

A child restraint system in a closed vehicle can become very hot. To prevent burns, check the seat surface and buckles before placing the child in the child restraint system.
