Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Malfunction and Limitations

~5min read

Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Malfunction

If Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist does not operate properly, the "Check Rear Cross-Traffic Safety" warning message will appear on the cluster for a few seconds, and the Owner () warning light will illuminate on the cluster. If this occurs, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

When the Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) does not operate properly, the "Check Blind-Spot Collision Warning" warning message will appear on the cluster for a few seconds, and the Service () warning light will illuminate on the cluster. In this case, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Disabled

When foreign matter such as snow or rain, or a trailer or carrier installation, covers the rear bumper area around the rear radar or sensor, it may reduce detection performance and temporarily limit or disable the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.

If this occurs, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system will be disabled. The "Radar Blocked" warning message will appear on the cluster.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist will operate normally once such foreign matter, trailer, etc. is removed.

If Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist does not operate properly after the obstruction is removed, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

  • Even if the warning message does not appear on the cluster, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may operate incorrectly.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate properly in any area (e.g., open areas) where no objects are detected after the engine is started.

PLEDGE

Disable Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist when installing or removing a trailer, carrier, or other towing equipment. Enable Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist when finished.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Limitations

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate properly or may activate unexpectedly under the following conditions:

  • When backing out from where trees or grass are overgrown
  • When backing out from where the road is wet
  • The speed of the approaching vehicle is too fast or too slow

Brake control may not operate. Driver attention is required in the following situations:

  • The vehicle vibrates strongly while driving on a bumpy road, uneven road, or concrete section.
  • Driving on a slippery surface due to snow, puddles, ice, etc.
  • Tire pressure is low or a tire is damaged.
  • Brake is adjusted

Information

For more details on the limitations of the rear corner radar, refer to "Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) System" in Chapter 7.

WARNING

• Driving near a vehicle or structure

[A]: Structure

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be limited when driving near a vehicle or structure, and may not detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. In this case, the function may not warn the driver or control the brakes when necessary.

Always check your surroundings when backing up.

• When the vehicle is in a complex parking environment

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect vehicles that are parking or leaving next to your vehicle (for example, a vehicle parked next to your vehicle, a vehicle leaving from the rear parking space, a vehicle approaching as your vehicle turns, etc.). In this case, the function may warn the driver and control the brakes unnecessarily.

Always check your surroundings when backing up.

• When the vehicle is parked diagonally

[Vehicle]

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be limited when reversing diagonally and may not detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. In this case, the function may not warn the driver or control the brakes when necessary.

Always check your surroundings when backing up.

• When the vehicle is on or near a slope

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be limited when the vehicle is on or near an uphill or downhill slope, and may not detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. If this occurs, the function may not warn the driver or control the brakes when necessary.

Always check your surroundings when backing up.

• Entering a parking space where there is a structure

[A]: Frame, [B]: Wall

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect vehicles passing in front of you when reversing into a parking space with a wall or structure in the rear or side area. If this occurs, the function may warn the driver and control the brakes unnecessarily.

Always check your surroundings when backing up.

• When the vehicle is parked backward

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect vehicles passing by you when reversing into a parking space. In this case, the function may warn the driver and control the brakes unnecessarily.

Always check your surroundings when backing up.

WARNING

  • When you tow a trailer or another vehicle, we recommend that Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist be disabled for safety reasons.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate normally when exposed to strong electromagnetic waves.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate for 3 seconds after the vehicle is started, or until the rear corner radars are initialized.
