Driver's Seat Belt Reminder Light

The driver's seat belt reminder light will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds each time the ignition is turned ON, regardless of seat belt fastening. During this time, if the seat belt is not fastened, a warning chime will sound for 6 seconds.

If you continue not to fasten your seat belt and drive at a speed above 6 mph (9 km/h), the reminder light will remain on.

If you continue not to fasten your seat belt and drive at a speed above 12 mph (20 km/h), the seat belt reminder chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the corresponding warning light will flash.

If you unfasten your seat belt while driving above 20 km/h, the seat belt reminder light will remain on until the seat belt is fastened.

If you unbuckle your seat belt while driving at a speed above 12 mph (20 km/h), the unbelted warning chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the corresponding warning light will flash.

Front Passenger Seat Belt Reminder Light

Front passenger seat belt reminder warning lights will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds each time the ignition is turned ON, regardless of seat belt fastening.

WARNING

Riding in an incorrect position adversely affects the front passenger seat belt reminder system. It is important that the driver instructs the passenger to sit properly, as described in this manual.

Information

  • Even though the front passenger seat is unoccupied, the unbelted indicator light may flash or stay on for 6 seconds. • The front passenger seat belt reminder may operate when luggage is on the front passenger seat.

WARNING

Improperly worn seat belts may increase the risk of serious injury in an accident. Observe the following precautions when adjusting the seat belt:

  • Position the lap portion of the seat belt as low as possible on the hips, not on the waist, so that it fits snugly. This allows your strong pelvic bones to absorb the force of a collision, reducing the likelihood of internal injuries.
  • Place one hand under the shoulder belt and the other above the lap belt, as shown in the illustration.
  • Always position the shoulder belt anchor in the locked position at the appropriate height.
  • Never place the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back.
