Installing a Child Restraint System on a Seat with a Tether Anchor

~1min read

First secure the child restraint using the LATCH lower anchors or the seat belt. If the child restraint manufacturer recommends that the top tether strap be attached, route, attach and tighten the top tether strap to the top tether anchor.

The tether anchor hooks for child restraint systems are located on the back of the seatbacks.

To install the tether anchor:

1. Route the child restraint system top tether strap over the seatback. Route the strap under the head restraint and between the head restraint posts, or route the strap over the seatback from the vehicle roof. Make sure the strap is not twisted.

2. Connect the tether strap hook to the anchor, then tighten the top tether according to the child restraint manufacturer's instructions to firmly secure the child restraint system to the seat.

3. Make sure the child restraint system is securely attached to the seat by pushing and pulling the seat forward, backward, and from side to side.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions when installing the top tether:

  • Read and follow all installation instructions provided with your child restraint system.
  • NEVER connect more than one child restraint system to a single tether anchor. This may cause the anchor or tether to loosen or break in the future.
  • Do not attach the tether strap to anything other than the correct top tether anchor. It may not function properly if attached to something else.
  • The child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand only the loads generated by a properly installed child restraint system. Never use the child restraint anchorages for adult seat belts or harnesses, or for attaching other items or equipment to the vehicle.
