Child Restraint System (CRS)
Children Always in the Rear
WARNING
Always properly restrain children in the vehicle. Children of all ages are safer when properly restrained in the rear seat. A child riding in the front passenger seat may be struck forcefully by the deploying front airbag, which may result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
Children under the age of 13 should always ride in the rear seats and must always be properly restrained to minimize the risk of injury in a collision, sudden stop, or sudden maneuver.
According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seat than in the front seat. Even with airbags, children can be seriously injured or killed. Children who are too large for a child restraint system must use the provided seat belts.
All 50 states have child restraint laws that require children to travel in approved child restraint systems. Laws governing age, height, or weight limits at which seat belts may be used instead of a child restraint system vary by state, so you should know the specific requirements in your state and where you travel.
Child restraint systems must be properly positioned and installed in the rear seat. You must use a commercially available child restraint system that meets the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS 213).
Child restraint systems are generally designed to be secured to the vehicle seat using the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt or using the LATCH system in the rear seats of the vehicle.
Child Restraint System (CRS)
Infants and small children must be secured in a rear-facing or forward-facing child restraint system (CRS) that is properly installed on the vehicle seat. Read and follow the installation and use instructions provided by the child restraint manufacturer.
WARNING
An improperly secured child restraint can increase the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH in an accident. Always observe the following precautions when using a child restraint system:
- NEVER install a child or infant restraint in the front passenger seat.
- Always properly secure the child restraint in the rear seat of the vehicle.
- Always follow the child restraint manufacturer's instructions for installation and use.
- Always properly secure the child in the child restraint.
- If the vehicle head restraint interferes with proper installation of the child restraint (as described in the child restraint system manual), the head restraint of the corresponding seat must be adjusted or removed completely.
- Do not use a car bed or child safety seat that "hooks" over the top of the seatback, as it may not provide proper protection in an accident.
- After an accident, have the child restraint system, seat belts, anchors and lower anchors inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
