Child Restraint Installation Using LATCH Anchors

~2min read

To install a LATCH-compatible child restraint in either of the rear outboard seating positions:

1. Pull the seat belt buckle away from the lower anchors.

2. Move any objects away from the anchors that could prevent a secure connection between the child restraint and the lower anchors.

3. Place the child restraint on the vehicle seat, then attach the lower anchor connectors of the child restraint to the lower anchors in accordance with the child restraint manufacturer's instructions.

4. Follow the child restraint instructions to properly adjust and tighten the lower attachments of the child restraint to the lower anchors.

WARNING

When using the LATCH system, observe the following precautions:

  • Read and follow all installation instructions provided with your child restraint system.
  • To prevent a child from reaching and grabbing unused seat belts, secure all unused rear seat belts and keep the seat belt straps away from the child. A child may be strangled if the shoulder belt wraps around their neck and the seat belt tightens.
  • NEVER attach more than one child restraint to a single anchor. This could loosen or break the anchor or attachment.
  • Always have the LATCH system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer after an accident. An accident may damage the LATCH system and prevent the child restraint from being secured correctly.

Seat Belt Installation

First secure the child restraint with the lower LATCH anchors or the seat belt. If the child restraint manufacturer recommends using the tether strap, attach and tighten the tether strap to the tether anchor.

Tether anchors are located on the backs of the rear seats.

WARNING

When installing the tether strap, observe the following precautions:

  • Read and follow all installation instructions provided with your child restraint system.
  • NEVER attach more than one child restraint to a single tether anchor. This may loosen or break the anchor or attachment.
  • Do not attach the tether strap to anything other than the proper tether anchor. It may not function properly if connected to something else.
  • Do not use tether anchors for adult seat belts or tether straps, or to attach other objects or equipment to the vehicle.

To install the tether strap:

1. Route the tether strap over the back of the child restraint seat.

Route the strap under the head restraint and between the head restraint posts, or pass the strap over the top of the child seat back. Make sure the strap is not twisted.

2. Attach the tether hook to the tether anchor, then tighten the tether strap in accordance with the child restraint manufacturer's instructions to securely fasten the child restraint to the seat.

3. Make sure the child restraint is securely attached to the seat by pushing and pulling the seat forward and from side to side.
