Towing a Trailer
If you plan to tow a trailer, first consult your state Department of Motor Vehicles to determine the legal requirements. Trailer towing requirements, such as for trailers, vehicles, or other types of equipment, vary by state. Contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for more information before towing.
Remember that towing a trailer is different from simply driving the vehicle. A trailer changes handling, durability, and fuel economy.
Successful and safe trailer towing requires the correct equipment, and it must be used properly. Damage to your vehicle caused by improper trailer towing is not covered by the vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
This section contains many time-tested important tips and safety rules. Many of them are important for your safety and the safety of your passengers. Please read this section carefully before towing a trailer.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions:
- If you use improper equipment and/or drive incorrectly, you may lose control of the vehicle while towing a trailer. For example, if the trailer is too heavy, braking performance may be reduced. You and your passengers could suffer serious or fatal injuries. Tow a trailer only after you have completed all steps described in this section.
- Before towing, make sure that the trailer weight, gross combined weight (GCWR), gross vehicle weight (GVW), gross axle weight (GAW), and trailer tongue load are all within limits.
